One-year-old miniature schnauzer, “Lincoln,” came as a surprise to Kristie Moore, Supervisor, Fulfillment Operations, in our Silver Department at Replacements, Ltd. – in two ways! First, Kristie’s boyfriend, who had never had an “inside” dog, surprised her when he told her that he wanted to get a small-breed dog that he could keep in his house.
“We visited a local breeder,” Kristie said, “and we were just supposed to be looking. But after we saw Lincoln, we couldn’t leave him.” Two weeks after they brought Lincoln home came the second surprise. “My boyfriend received a phone call informing him that his reserve unit had been called up to go to Iraq,” Kristie said. “Since that day Lincoln has been a Replacements, Ltd. employee!”
Kristie’s coworkers in the Silver Department have become so attached to Lincoln that they tell Kristie he will have to stay with her, even when her boyfriend returns home. “My boyfriend was with his unit in Iraq for one year, but is remaining on as a contractor for another year. In all honesty, now I can’t imagine life without Lincoln,” Kristie said. “He has his morning routine. He drives in to work with me, then goes to Silver Inventory to see who might have an excellent little breakfast tidbit for him. Then he waits to hear the door click in our department, when his special friends in Silver Fulfillment come in. Usually they have treats for him, too!”
Kristie says that Lincoln was an easy dog to housebreak. “He barks whenever he needs to go outside,” Kristie said. “He knows his ‘personal dog walker,’ Vernice McRae (Replacements, Ltd. Area Puller/Shelver, Fulfillment Operations, Silver Department), will come and take him for a walk outside.”
Of course, Kristie admits, sometimes Lincoln barks as if he needs to go out, when all he really wants is a treat. “You could say that Lincoln has trained us instead of us training him!” Kristie said. “But he’s been a true blessing. I feel that the pet-friendly policy at Replacements, Ltd. is really great - I wish more companies allowed pets to come to work. The policy has given me the opportunity to socialize Lincoln to a level I don’t think we could have reached if he didn’t come to work every day. The other bonus for me and the staff in Silver Fulfillment Operations is that if we’re having a bad day, one of us can take Lincoln outside and walk around the building for a moment - and the stress just melts away.”
